Stop Mething Around
Crystal methamphetamine is a huge problem in Hawaii. In fact, we've earned the dubious title "Ice Capital" of the nation based on per capita use. But here's the thing, we don't need stats or titles to know the reality of this problem. It's all around us, and we come face to face with it everyday. It breaks our hearts. We want to do something about it. And we are.
It might seem simplistic, but one of the main things we have been doing here at Revolution Hawaii is praying. We pray for people we meet who are addicted. We pray for children and family members who are suffering the fallout. We pray for communities that are struggling to cope. But we also pray that God would get rid of "ice" all together. I've got to tell you that sometimes I don't want to pray this prayer. It's weird but I get to feeling that this request is just too much to ask of God. All of a sudden my faith becomes an issue. I mean, could He really do it if he wanted to? And speaking of wanting to, wouldn't He? How small is a mustard seed anyway because at times like these my faith must be subatomic in size.
Today's Honolulu Advertiser front page headline gave my faith a much needed boost. Here is an excerpt from the first paragraph:
Meth toll declines
"The number of crystal methamphetamine-related fatalities on O'ahu plunged to a six-year low in 2006, ending a recent trend of record-high deaths, the city's chief medical examiner said yesterday."
You can check out the rest for yourself here:

Of course, the article doesn't give any credit to God or prayer. All I know is that we started praying, and God started working. And this is after only 5 months! With more prayer and more faith, what do you think we could accomplish by summer?
